This is my method for extracting images in Photoshop. Minimal knowledge of the pen tool is ideal, but not necessarily required. I don't go over the basics of the pen tool, but there are many great tutorials out there that do. :)

Please ask me if you'd like to post this at your rpg, studio, or academy. Thanks.

Nice tut! I've never extracted with the pen tool before... this tut is nice and crystal clear. This will be a nice distraction from exams. Hehe.

Yay for distraction. xP

What's sad? That there are no comments, or that I took the time to make this?

This is interesting, I just click around the outside of the horse, close my path going away from the horse, and then delete the background out...Is there any reason you do it this way instead?

I loved this tutorial when you posted it on NSHC and I still love it :D

Tee hee, thanks. I wanted to share it with other artists. Share the love!

Sometimes the other tools aren't appropriate for cutting things out, not to mention this creates smoother lines and a tighter cut. I prefer this method and use it the most because it leaves less extraneous background afterward.

I use the pen tool too, lol. I can see how it would make smoother lines, though I don't have problems with tight cuts or extra background usually. I'll have to try this sometime :)
